La porta del Natale, una tela per ricordi condivisi

 

    La porta di una soffitta spesso ha un alone di fascino e mistero per la mole di oggetti e chissà che tesori dimenticati che stanno al suo interno. Per i bambini poi si presta ad essere un confine di misteri che rimanda alle storie di paura, mostri e buio. 

Dietro quella porta la nostra soffitta invece è solo un insieme enorme di cose che poco hanno a che fare col fascino.

Da noi, è una porticina più piccola delle altre, sta nella parte bassa del sottotetto e quando l'ho vista la prima volta quasi non mi rendevo conto fosse una stanza in più perchè era stata pitturata dello stesso colore del muro e la maniglia non era propriamente una classica ma una sorta di manico ad anello incassato nel legno.

L'idea di conferire della magia e una personalità degna di estro mi ha fatto decidere di dipingerla con la pittura effetto lavagna colore nero, proprio a ricreare le lavagne di ardesia che ormai sono purtroppo praticamente scomparse dalle scuole. Volevo dare vita ad uno spazio unico che si potesse modificare a piacimento.

La vernice lavagna altro non è che una semplice pittura decorativa molto versatile, di tutti i colori, che trasforma un muro, un complemento d'arredo, parti di mobili e ogni tipologia d'oggetto verniciabile, in un angolo in cui scrivere e disegnare con i gessetti.

Pensavo ai miei figli, all'epoca erano ancora dei bambini e mi immaginavo che sarebbe stato un posto perfetto dove trascorrere ore a pasticciare, scarabocchiare e divertirsi senza grandi problemi di pulizia di bianche pareti.

Alla fine è diventata la porta del Natale dove pure io ho iniziato a sfogare quel po' di creatività che mi prende soprattutto in periodo di feste natalizie quando la decorazione di casa arriva sempre anche al piano di sopra. Ricordo che per certi disegni particolarmente impegnativi alla fine dovevano venirmi a sollevare come avessi avuto 100 anni, ore inginocchiata per terra a disegnare i particolari più bassi mi causavano qualche problemino articolare, ma questo è un modo per segnare un passaggio dell'anno, un modo per portare colore e allegria, un modo per ricordare ai miei che personalizzare, creare e dare importanza al gesto artistico è qualcosa che lascia sempre una bella impronta positiva.

Caratterizzare uno spazio, lasciare un segno che cambia di stagione in stagione, è come raccontare che la casa può rispecchiare chi siamo, che possiamo sempre coltivare la creatività, è un tratto di personalità che arricchisce l'ambiente. Trasformare la porta della soffitta per Natale è diventato un rituale decorativo e un invito ad esprimersi. Un po' di ispirazione e di patrimonio originale qui sono sempre i benvenuti.

                                 

The door to an attic often carries an aura of charm and mystery, concealing a trove of objects and who knows what forgotten treasures within. For children, it becomes a border of mysteries, evoking tales of fear, monsters, and darkness. 

But behind that door, our attic is simply a vast collection of things that have little to do with charm.Ours is a small door, smaller than the others, situated low in the attic space. When I first saw it, I almost didn’t realize it was an extra room, as it was painted the same color as the wall, and the handle wasn’t a typical one—it was more of a recessed ring embedded in the wood. Wanting to add a bit of magic and give it some flair, I decided to paint it with black chalkboard paint, recreating the slate chalkboards that, unfortunately, have all but disappeared from schools. I wanted to create a unique space that could be modified as we pleased.

Chalkboard paint is really just a versatile decorative paint that comes in a variety of colors and can turn a wall, piece of furniture, part of a cabinet, or nearly any paintable object into a space for writing and drawing with chalk.

I was thinking of my children—back then they were still little—and imagined it would be the perfect place to spend hours doodling, scribbling, and having fun without worrying too much about cleaning white walls.

In the end, it became the Christmas door, where I too began to indulge in a bit of creativity, especially during the holiday season when decorations inevitably spread to the upper floors. I remember that after some particularly challenging designs, they practically had to lift me up as if I were a hundred years old, hours spent kneeling to draw the lower details taking a toll on my joints! But it’s a way to mark the passing of the year, a way to bring color and joy, a way to remind my family that personalizing, creating, and valuing artistic expression is something that always leaves a beautiful positive mark.

Bringing character to a space, leaving a trace that changes with the seasons, is a way of saying that a home can reflect who we are, that creativity can always be nurtured. It’s a touch of personality that enriches the environment. Transforming the attic door for Christmas has become a decorative ritual and an invitation to express ourselves. A little inspiration—and a bit of original heritage—are always welcome here.
